8 DAYS RWANDA & UGANDA SAFARI
DAY 1: Arrival
On arrival, you will be met by our staff at Kanombe Airport in Kigali; he will help you with your luggage to the car. After check in to your hotel, he will brief you about Rwanda, your travel itinerary, culture and all other important information. And if time allows you can do city tour; the Genocide memorial, Crafts market and Cultural centers.
DAY 2: Volcano NP – Kinigi
Drive to Volcano NP through Ruhengeri via the rolling hills and great views of the mountains; after about 3 hours you would arrive at your hotel. After check-in visit the Batwa community the original inhabitants of the area, women crafts market and other interesting areas.
DAY 3: Gorilla Tracking
After your early morning breakfast, with packed lunch, go for registration at the park offices and be ready for briefing at 7:00 am. Walk up the steep densely forested hills before coming across the Gorillas camouflaged in the forest vegetation. This trek requires a reasonable degree of fitness as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. Sit in the forest among the Gorillas listening to them grumble to each other and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male. It is amazing to think that there only 700 individuals of these beautiful creatures left in the world.
DAY 4: To Uganda
Through Kisoro drive to Bwindi forest, reaching Buhoma after 4 hours drive: This is the best of Uganda’s forest reserves, best known for its superb Gorilla tracking but it also provides refuge to Elephants, Chimpanzees, Monkeys and various small antelopes as well as 23 bird species restricted to the Albertine rift. Walk up the steep densely forested hills before coming across the Gorillas camouflaged in the forest vegetation.
DAY 5: Bwindi Gorilla Tracking
Have an early morning breakfast, carry packed lunch, go for registration at the park offices and be ready for briefing at 8:00 am. Walk up the steep densely forested hills before coming across the gorillas’ camouflaged in the vegetation. This trek requires a reasonable degree of fitness as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. Sit in the forest among the Gorillas listening to them grumble to each other and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male. If you still have energy, take a guided walk, the Munyaga River trail leads to three delightful crystal clear water falls, profusion of tree ferns, epiphytic ferns, orchids and Bwindi colorful array of butterflies. Or do community villages walk; see how people live, Batwa, medicine man, local banana juice and more.
DAY 6: Queen Elizabeth NP
Through Ishasha; the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, a sector famous for the climbing lions, impressive herds of Elephants, Topi, Buffaloes and wonderful cob larks drive to the northern sector of Queen Elizabeth NP. After a short game drive proceed on to Mweya for a night stay, arriving in the evening early enough for dinner.
DAY 7: Game Drive and Boat Ride
After early morning coffee, you will go for an early morning game drive to provide you with excellent opportunities to viewing wildlife. Head to the floor of the rift valley teamed up with a lot of wildlife making it one of the treasures of the continent. The Kasenyi sector is known for its abundance of lions that prey on the very many Uganda Cobs found in the area. Other game to be seen include; Elephants, Buffalo, Leopard Waterbuck, Bush Buck Warthog and the un expected Giant forest hog the African largest wild pig which is usually associated with dense forest rather than semi open bushes. Come back for a late breakfast.
After lunch enjoy the unique cruise on the Kazinga channel, the 40km Kazinga channel connects two rift valley lakes Edward and George, these remember Queen Victoria sons and heir Edward VII and successor George V. the launch trip on this channel is an excellent opportunity to view the varied and abundant wildlife populations. These include: Elephants, Hippos, Buffaloes and Nile crocodile. Not to mention an amazing numbers of resident and migratory birds.
DAY 8: Chimp Tracking and Kigali
After an early morning coffee drive to fig tree camp, the tourist center for Kyambura River gorge. Track chimps in the dramatic Kyambura gorge on the eastern side of the park 35 km from Mweya lodge. The 16km gorge is a home to 30 chimps and also hosts the black and white Columbus monkey, Red tailed monkey, Velvet monkey and baboons, the birds include the black and White casqued horn bill, Blue Turaco, Ross’s Turaco and Black Bee eater among others. Thereafter, leave for Kigali – Rwanda through Kabale, arriving to your hotel in the evening but early enough for dinner.
