4 DAYS TANZANIA WILDLIFE SAFARI
TO LAKE MANYARA,SERENGETI AND NGORONGORO CRATER
Day One: Arusha to lake Manyara National Park
After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be met by your Kompass Safari guide and head to our first destination, Lake Manyara National Park. Here you will be captivated by one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, the famous tree-climbing lions, the large flocks of flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake as well as over 400 spectacular bird species. Lake Manyara itself is a shallow soda lake, covering two-thirds of the park at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. After a busy but breathtaking day you will enjoy dinner and your overnight stay at your Lodge.
Day Two: Lake Manyara National park to the Serengeti Plains
After breakfast we journey through the attractive farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the world famous Serengeti National Park with its seemingly endless plains rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We will head to the Seronera River area in the centre of the park. This is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park as the river attracts droves of the Serengeti’s animal inhabitants. We arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti National Park. Dinner and overnight will be spent in the Seronera area.
Day Three: Serengeti plains to Ngorongoro crater
After breakfast, we depart for Olduvai Gorge, a ravine in the Great Rift Valley and one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world, where world renowned anthropologists Drs. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man’, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution.
After our time at the gorge we travel onwards to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving in time for lunch at the lodge. The afternoon will see us descending over 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater to view all the special wildlife, much of which cannot be seen anywhere else apart from the crater. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro National Park supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw of this picturesque National Park, is the dense population of predators, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and leopard. We will also visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually been seen here.
Optional activity
A hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti is available at (supplementary cost by pre-arrangement). This is a stunning once in a lifetime experience to soar and drift above these African plains, spotting wildlife and enjoying the amazing aerial view of the rivers, villages and wildlife below you.
