10 DAY ROAD TO ZANZIBAR TOUR

TO TARANGIRE, SERENGETI, SAADANI AND DAR ES SALAAM

Day One: Kilimanjaro to Tarangire National Park

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met by your Kompass Safaris representative and driven to your Lodge located in the Tarangire National Park. Each of the twelve tents is shaded by tall acacia trees and ancient baobabs and is within sight of the well-frequented waterhole. In the afternoon there is time to relax before enjoying an exciting game drive by open four wheel drive. Huge herds of elephant, greater kudu, Impala and Zebra are all easily spotted whilst leopard lurk in the trees. Return to camp to freshen up before dinner.

Day Two: Tarangire National Park

This morning awake to the sounds of the bush as a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee is served on your tents deck. The rest of the morning is at leisure, perhaps to take a refreshing swim in the pool or relax on your private deck with a cool drink and gaze out to the waterhole and watch as the game lazily congregates in the shade to escape the morning sun. After lunch, served at the Lodge you may wish to catch up with the wildlife by taking an afternoon game drive. Return to your lodge to freshen up before meeting around the camp fire for a pre-dinner drink as you discuss the day’s adventures.

Day Three: Tarangire National Park to Serengeti National Park

This morning you will be transferred to the airstrip for your onward shared scheduled flight to the Serengeti. The flying time is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and we go straight from the plane to camp, just in time to freshen up before lunch is served. This afternoon discover why the Serengeti is so iconic of Africa nature on an afternoon game drive. The open plains spread out as far as the eye can see, the name Serengeti comes from the Maasai language meaning, “endless plains”. The Park is one of the world’s largest wildlife sanctuaries and hosts one of the world’s largest land migrations. The Serengeti National Park is the safari adventure most people imagine when they first start to dream of exploring Africa with its unequalled beautiful vistas and wildlife.

Day Four: Serengeti National Park

Today you may choose to either partake in a full day game drive into the heart of the Serengeti with a picnic lunch or remain close to camp with morning and afternoon game drives. This evening return to camp and climb to the top of the kopje (small hill) for stunning 360 degree views of the Serengeti. Relax with your preferred drink as you watch the setting sun paint the Serengeti with pinks, oranges and reds. Settle in at the dining tent for a deliciously prepared meal before retiring to your tent after an eventful day of game viewing.

Day Five: Serengeti National Park to Saadani Safari Lodge

Enjoy a leisurely morning relaxing at camp or venture out early on a morning game drive before transferring to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Arusha where you will be met and driven to Saadani Safari Lodge. The lodge is located on the Southern border of Saadani National Park and has six eco-friendly suites, each with ocean views opening on to the sandy beaches of the Indian Ocean. The lodge offers a variety of activities ranging from traditional game drives to sand bank picnics to a Maasai Community Tour. The sandy beach is home to fishermen reeling in their daily catch and near to the Wami River.

Day Six: Saadani

The day is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer. Today you might want to explore the area from game drive starting straight from the lodge’s ‘front door’ in comfortable 4×4 vehicles. The park is the only coastal wildlife sanctuary of its kind on the eastern coast of Africa and so the game safaris are completely unique. The cool ocean is also the perfect place to visit the underwater world. The lodge is able to arrange for guests to set out on a motorized boat to a nearby sandbank where equipped with snorkelling masks and flippers guests could take a swim in the blue crystal clear waters and admire the coral and fish which have found their home in the waters off the beach.

Day Seven: Saadani

Again, today is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer. There is an abundance of local birdlife within and round the lodge. Let your guide tell you about the different species and use their trained eye to help you look deeper and spot more than you could have imagined. This area is a birdwatcher’s paradise and even for those who do not fall into that category, the birdlife will astonish you too. Guests are also able to learn about the Maasai culture by visiting their community and speaking to the locals. The villagers love to entertain guests with their local traditions and teach guests about their way of life.

Day Eight: Saadani (Safari Lodge to River Lodge)

This morning you will be transferred to Saadani River Lodge. The 17 stilted luxury suites are built for rest and relaxation on the southern shore of the Wami River close to the Saadani National Park. The guest tree houses blend into the natural scenery on their stilts with traditional thatched roofs. In addition, for the ultimate secluded escape, River Lodge’s Wami Suite is a private villa with its own infinity pool, two bedrooms and bathrooms, a living room and dining room. The lodge offers guests a range of activities including game drives and river excursions. The in-house spa provides indulgent massages to enjoy between activities.

Day Nine: Saadani

The day is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer. There is a huge amount of wildlife in and around the lodge. Whether you journey in 4×4 vehicles, by boat or on foot, you’ll be up close and personal with the wildlife. There is a good chance of spotting lions, leopards, buffalo, antelope, hyenas, giraffes, elephants and zebras. By the river it is likely that you will spot hippos and crocodiles while Colobus monkeys clamber through the trees on the river banks. The lodge and the surrounding areas are blessed with an array of bird life, ranging from the commonly viewed to the exotic and rare: Fish eagle, Black kite, Cuckoo Hawk, Lanner falcon, Lesser kestrel, Purple heron, Brown-necked parrot, Ringed plover, Long-crested eagle and Greater flamingo to name a few.
